Question on Student Loan offset for rebate?
December 2nd, 2009
t_holland86 asked:
My husband and I haven’t been able to pay our student loans in a while, and I think we are now in default. Our refund wasn’t offset, and I checked status on the rebate today and it gives me an amount and says it will be deposited this Friday the 9th. Is there still a chance they can take money for the loans?

Q. The notice I received shows that I should have gotten more than the government actually deposited into my bank account. Did something go wrong?
A. It could be that the amount deposited into your bank account was what remained of your stimulus payment after it was offset for money you owed on back taxes or other debts such as a student loan or child support. If this is the case, you’ll receive an additional notice, providing details on the offset.
I dont think so. If they did not take your regular federal refund, they will not take the rebate check.
